Rachel King is the Principal of Leadership Prep Ocean Hill Elementary Academy. Rachel joined Uncommon Schools as a founding lead teacher at LPOH where she taught first grade, third grade and fourth grade. Before coming to Leadership Prep, Rachel was a third grade teacher at P.S. 86, The Kingsbridge Heights School, in the Bronx. She served as a 2008 Teach For America corps member where she participated in the Teaching as Leadership Rubric Validation Study and New York State Reading Academy. Rachel earned her B.A. in Journalism from Southern Methodist University and her M.S. in Education from UKA Teacher U at Hunter College. This past year, Rachel was selected to be an Instructional Fellow with Uncommon Schools. During her fellowship year, Rachel was part of the National Principals Academy at Relay Graduate School of Education.
Director of Operations
Nikhil Kumar is the Director of Operations of Leadership Prep Ocean Hill Elementary Academy. He went to UC Berkeley for undergrad and then worked for several years in the private sector, first at a management consulting firm and then at Bank of America. He also volunteered at a non-profit, teaching personal finance to high school students, which sparked his interest in working in public education. Immediately before joining Uncommon, he attended Columbia Business School, where he worked on several projects for education organizations, including Teach for America, Knewton, and New Jersey's Department of Education.
