Our School
Leadership Prep Ocean Hill Charter School prepares students to succeed in high school, college, and beyond. Through academic achievement, our students earn opportunities in life for themselves and their families and prepare to contribute as leaders in their communities.
Leadership Prep Ocean Hill opened in August 2010 to 145 Kindergarten and 1st Grade students. In the 2011-2012 school year, Leadership Prep Ocean Hill will have Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade with a total of 232 students.
Similar to other schools in the LPEX network, Leadership Prep Ocean Hill offers a rigorous, college-preparatory program in a safe and structure environment. The school is led by Founding Principal Nikki Bridges and Director for Operations and Finance Brendalyn King.
Leadership Prep was originally located at 1137 Herkimer Street in Brooklyn. It has now moved to 51 Christopher Avenue in Brooklyn.
Mission: College and Contribution
Leadership Prep Ocean Hill is about College and Contribution. As an elementary school, we teach students the academic skills, knowledge and personal traits necessary to succeed in high school, college, and beyond. Through academic achievement, our students prepare to contribute to their communities as leaders. Our approach is based on the practices proven effective at the highest performing urban public schools in the country.
We believe that an outstanding education, based on strong mastery of academic skills and knowledge, prepares young people to build positive futures for themselves and become community leaders as adults. A culture of academic excellence, in which all children are expected to read on or above grade level, in which all children are expected to master one year of High School Algebra by the end of Eighth Grade, and in which all children are expected to act in respectful and honorable ways-is key to that development. Leadership Prep is dedicated to providing the outstanding education necessary to develop leaders.
Leadership Prep currently serves three classes of Kindergarten and two classes of First Grade. We will grow to serve more than 600 students in grades Kindergarten to Eighth Grade.
